Basic pay is only the start
Published band or spine pay is basic salary. Total earnings often include enhancements: unsocial hours, on-call, London or regional weighting, HCAS (NHS), TLR (schools), market forces supplements and recruitment premia. Eligibility is role and rota specific.
NHS HCAS
From 1 April 2026 in England, HCAS is a percentage of basic pay with annual minimum and maximum cash floors and caps for inner London, outer London and fringe zones. Payroll may pay between min and max depending on your basic pay. See our allowances guide for detail.
School TLR and SEN
TLR1, TLR2 and TLR3 are statutory ranges for defined responsibilities. SEN allowances apply where conditions are met. They are not automatic with experience: you need the post and school agreement.
